Restore That Faded Or Washed-Off Jewelry and Costume

Shoe week

Always start off by trying to restore your fashion jewelry simply by polishing it with a lint-free cloth. It may take a few minutes to fully restore it this way, but many times you can avoid complicated processes simply by using a cloth.

If you have found that the chamois or lint-free cloth haven’t done the trick, then it’s time to gather up a few ingredients and start restoring your favorite fashion and costume jewelry.

Chains

Is there anything more annoying than trying to get a knot out of a chain?
Forget spending countless hours picking away at a chain with a thin and sharp implement. *Grab some cornstarch or talcum powder instead!

* Lay the chain out as flat as possible and then sprinkle it with either cornstarch or talcum            powder.
* Twist and turn the knot to gently release it. If you have a particularly difficult knot, take a straight pin and push it right through the center of the tangle.
This will help create extra space for the knot to untangle itself.

Fake Gold

Gold jewelry is cleaned best in an ammonia-based solution.
* Take 1 cup of warm water, 2 tablespoons of liquid detergent and add one drop of ammonia together in a small bowl.
* Add in your gold jewelry, and allow it to sit and soak for up to 5 minutes.
* Take the jewelry out, and then brush it gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
* Once cleaned, rinse the jewelry off in lukewarm water (you want to make sure you get rid of any traces of ammonia).
* Once the jewelry is dry, you can add some extra shine by rubbing on some rubbing alcohol.

Fake Silver

You really want to restore that shine to your silver jewelry, especially as one can spot tarnished silver jewelry from a mile away.
For getting rid of surface dirt and grit,
* Take your fake or real silver jewelry and immerse it in a bowl or sink filled with 1 cup of warm water and 3 drops of liquid detergent.
* Scrub it with a soft cloth or a soft-bristled toothbrush, and then polish dry.

If you happen to have a particularly stubborn tarnish stain, create a paste by adding 3 parts of baking soda with 1 part water.
* Before applying the paste to the silver, wet the silver with a few drops of water, and then apply the paste with a soft cloth.
* Rinse the silver and allow it to air dry.

If the tarnish persists, follow the same procedure again until it is completely gone.

Restore Loose Stones
All because you have a few stones coming off of your costume or fashion jewelry doesn’t mean that you have to throw it out.
*Get some clear super glue and apply 1-3 small dabs of glue to the backside or base of a loose stone (take care to not allow the glue to come over the sides of the stone when applying it as it will harden on top of the stone and reduce the shine).

You can use a toothpick to help press down any smaller stones
